Webtoon turns its own webcomics into live-action verticals
Webtoon Entertainment launched a limited slate of six WEBTOON Originals as live-action Short Dramas, the company’s first move into live-action content. Each series runs 40 to 50 episodes of roughly one to two minutes. The opening titles include Love Bites, drawn from the webcomic adaptation of the Wattpad novel Bite Me, and Maybe Meant to Be, based on a webcomic with more than 650 million views. Several episodes stream free before a Coin-based pay-per-episode wall begins. At launch, the Short Dramas are available on Webtoon’s English- and French-language platforms.
Why it matters: Webtoon is adapting stories and a readership it already controls, turning a catalogue it already monetizes into a second format it can own end to end.
